Scott A. Bovard, MD, FACS, FASMBS, is originally from Colorado, where he completed his undergraduate degree at Colorado State University. After service with the US Air Force, which allowed him to travel worldwide, he matriculated into medical school at Ross University School of Medicine. During medical school, Dr. Bovard had his first opportunity to learn about weight loss surgery firsthand from one of the forerunners of modern bariatric surgery, Dr. Merlin Ottman in Colorado. It was this experience that would set the course of his professional life. Dr. Bovard completed his residency in Baltimore at St. Agnes Hospital, a Johns Hopkins University affiliate hospital that was home to Maryland’s most successful and prolific bariatric program.
