Bariatric Surgery for Greensboro, NC Patients – Coming Soon!

At Bariatric Specialists of the Carolinas, we frequently care for patients traveling from Greensboro and nearby communities. Our board-certified surgeons specialize in advanced robotic bariatric procedures, and our team works closely with patients to make the process as seamless and supportive as possible.

If you’re exploring bariatric surgery or ready to proceed, our team offers personalized guidance and answers to help you navigate the entire process.

Your Journey Begins Here

The first step is an initial consultation with one of our bariatric surgeons. This visit allows us to get to know you and gives you a chance to meet the team. During this appointment, we will:

  • Review your medical history and weight loss goals
  • Discuss surgical options suited to your health needs
  • Introduce you to your care team, including nurse navigators and care advocates who will support you before, during, and after surgery
  • Review the financial aspects of surgery and answer coverage-related questions

For eligible North Carolina State Health Plan members, you have access to bariatric surgery at no cost through the Lantern Network of Excellence. This state-based program provides:

  • Access to experienced, rigorously vetted bariatric surgeons
  • Comprehensive support throughout your surgical journey
  • No out-of-pocket costs for qualifying members

Our goal is to make the process as clear and manageable as possible, whether you’re pursuing insurance approval, self-pay options, or Lantern coverage.

Planning Your Surgery

Step 1: Schedule your consultation to discuss your goals and options.
Step 2: Surgery day at our local surgical center! We’ll guide you before, during, and after the procedure.
Step 3: Focus on rest, follow your post-op plan, and let healing take priority.

Depending on the type of procedure (gastric bypass, gastric sleeve, SADI, duodenal switch), you will spend up to two nights in the hospital for monitoring before you go home. Once home, take gradual steps to increase your activity over six weeks. You’ll also get clear guidance on progressing from liquids to solid foods.

Bring a Trusted Travel Partner

Patients should plan to have a companion with them for at least 48-72 hours after surgery to assist with:

  • Transportation to and from the surgery center
  • Getting around town while you’re recovering
  • Basic daily care and medication reminders
  • Motivation and emotional support before and after your procedure
  • Tracking post-op instructions

For patients managing additional medical conditions and mobility limitations, a travel companion that’s available for more than a few days can provide added support.

Surgery Aftercare

Bariatric surgery represents a decisive step toward better health and longevity, and sustained success is built upon continued care and healthy habits, including:

  • Attending scheduled follow-up visits with your surgery team and other healthcare providers
  • Following prescribed nutrition and vitamin supplementation
  • Incorporating consistent physical activity into your daily routine
  • Staying connected to support systems and managing your emotional health in positive ways

We encourage every one of our patients to connect with a support group in their local community. Surrounding yourself with people who understand this process makes a difference in long-term success. And of course, our care team will be available to answer questions and provide guidance whenever needed.
