Step 1: Research & Insurance Verification
The first step in beginning your weight loss journey is to do your research and contact us! Our goal is to educate you about the various procedure types and the long-term benefits of weight-loss surgery. We will then verify your insurance benefits to determine whether you have coverage for bariatric surgery. We urge you to do the same. Please remember, having the benefit is NOT an approval for surgery. This only confirms that you have weight loss surgery benefits as part of your insurance policy.
Step 2: Forms
We respect your time and your busy schedule. For your convenience, we can send you relevant forms to minimize unnecessary waiting time. You will need to bring the following items with you to your appointment or send them to us for a telemed appointment:
- New patient forms
- Insurance card to each appointment.
- A list of all prescriptions and over-the-counter medications that you are currently taking.
- A list of all your physicians’ names and phone numbers.
Step 3: Initial Consultation
At your initial consultation, you will meet with our bariatric team to discuss any concerns you may have about weight loss surgery and to determine which procedure is right for you. You will meet with our Pre-Op Coordinator to go over and schedule pre-op testing and qualifying factors needed before you are approved by insurance. The pre-qualification process does include a series of tests. You will meet with a licensed psychologist, a nutritionist, and other healthcare professionals who will prepare you for the changes ahead.
Step 4: Payment
Insurance Patients
Every insurance company has its own criteria needed for bariatric surgery. Our staff will work with your insurance company on your behalf to ensure all the required information is submitted to expedite the approval process. In order for us to submit your information to the insurance company for approval, the patient must have the results of your lab work, psychological evaluation, nutrition evaluation, and weight history, as required by your insurance company.
Self-Funded Patients (Patients not using insurance for surgery)
Whether you have a bariatric exclusion or no benefits, we have programs to help everyone achieve their weight loss surgery goals. We accept third-party financing, cash, certified checks, and major credit cards for surgery payments. For additional information about our programs, please visit our self-pay page or call us.
Step 5: Surgery
Once you have been approved by insurance or completed your workup, you will have your final consultation with your surgeon. During this visit, you will meet with our coordinator to schedule your surgery. Your surgery estimate, if applicable, must be paid in full at this time in order to schedule surgery.
